A new Liverpool FC match steward handed over his first ever pay packet in the job to a foodbank to 'help someone else have a better day.'
The Anfield steward was working at his first Reds match on Saturday, as Liverpool blew Bournemouth away with an historic 9-0 win. While the steward will have had his eyes on the crowd during the match, making sure people were safe, he was also thinking about helping others after the game finished.
Fans Supporting Foodbanks is a project aimed at collecting food and essential items for foodbanks before and after football matches. The group was formed in Liverpool by West Derby MP Ian Byrne, Dave Kelly and Robbie Daniels. The project has now been expanded around the country.

After Saturday's match, the Fans Supporting Foodbanks twitter account shared a heart-warming moment from the day. They said: "Tales of humility. Loaded the van after yesterday's matchday collection when one of the head stewards approached us and gave us an envelope. Inside that envelope was a card and a donation from a steward of his first ever pay from Liverpool FC. LFC your staff are one of your greatest assets."
The account also shared an image of the card, with a message inside from the steward, Ian. It read: "For helping others, I have enclosed my first eve pay as an LFC steward, to hopefully help someone else have a better day. Take care, Ian."
Explaining how the moment happened, Fans Supporting Foodbanks co-founder Robbie Daniels said: "One of the security fellas came over to me and asked for a word in private, he said Ian was overwhelmed at what we do and he wanted to do his bit and handed me the envelope with the card in it and the £50 quid."
The post has been widely shared on social media, with many praising the steward's generous act. Fans Supporting Foodbanks co-founder and MP Ian Byrne said: "It’s a wonderful example of humanity in difficult times for so many by Ian. It’s acts like this which restore your faith in humanity and it perfectly encapsulates the ethos of Fans Supporting Foodbanks."
The group also shared a second tale of kindness from the weekend. They explained that a lady called Jacqui called up and asked if there was a way they could collect a large donation that was too big to drop off before the match.
They explained: "We called to the house and collected the donation. She explained that her mother was a regular donor to the Foodbank but had sadly passed away. They decided that they would have family flowers only but would invite mourners to donate to Fans Supporting Foodbanks in her mother's memory. What a magnificent gesture from a grieving family to think of others in need. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, May your Mother RIP."
