Liverpool FC contract troubles presents major opportunity to Man City

The contract situations of Sadio Mané and Mohamed Salah are causing Liverpool a lot of issues, and Manchester City could capitalise on that to dominate English football for even longer.

In May 2021, City announced Kevin De Bruyne had penned a fresh two-year contract extension at the club, keeping him in blue until at least 2025. That was in the same season Pep Guardiola committed to a further 24 months at the Etihad Stadium - maintaining the club's near-impeccable contract business.

It's been a theme of City's glowing decade; when they know a player is blossoming, they tie them down to a long-term contract almost immediately. Leroy Sané is the only exception to the rule, but his current struggles at Bayern Munich may tell us everything we need to know.

Raheem Sterling, Riyad Mahrez, Ilkay Gundogan, and Gabriel Jesus all have contracts that expire at the end of next season, but each of them are seemingly either surplus to requirements, or have given all they can in their City careers. Replacing them names has seemingly already begun, with Erling Haaland set to join from Borussia Dortmund and the exciting Julian Alvarez linking up with his new club in pre-season.

There are important decisions yet to be made, but it's exciting times in East Manchester for City supporters - especially considering the situation their title rivals Liverpool are in.

Finding themselves just 180 minutes away from an unprecedented quadruple, the Reds ended a memorable campaign with just the two domestic trophies after Champions League final heartbreak in Paris. Just a day later too, headlines were flooded with Sadio Mané's reported exit from Anfield this summer.

The African Cup of Nations champion has a year left on his current deal, but a move to Bayern Munich is seemingly on the cards, with the winger announcing before last weekend's final that he would inform everyone about his future after the crucial clash. It's a similar situation for Mohamed Salah - who also has a year left - but there has yet to be any concrete links with a move away.

It's a scary situation for the club to be in and it could allow City and Guardiola to steal a march on their rivals, continuing their dominance of England's top flight. Despite being pushed all the way by Jurgen Klopp's side, the Blues secured their fourth Premier League crown in five seasons earlier this month.

All of City's key men are tied down to long contracts and the man at the helm is enjoying life in Manchester now more than ever, Liverpool's uncertainly could present a great chance to pull away even further from the chasing pack.
