Liverpool FC captain Jordan Henderson watches 'kids TV' instead of Man City matches

Jordan Henderson has praised Manchester City as a “fantastic team” but admitted he prefers to watch kids TV rather than get nervous watching the Premier League champions’ matches.

The Liverpool captain was speaking after his side’s 2-1 win at Southampton. Goals from Taki Minamino and Joel Matip saw them overturn Nathan Redmond’s opener to cut the gap back to a point after City’s draw with West Ham on Sunday.

The Reds lost the title by a point to City in the 2018/19 season and may well do so again this time around. They must beat Wolves on the final day while hoping Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa can do them a favour by denying Pep Guardiola a win on Sunday.

Speaking about the closeness of the title race to Sky Sports, Henderson said: “It is always tough, City never seem to drop points. They are a fantastic team”

When asked if he or his teammates watch City when they are on the TV, he smiled: “I don’t, normally. I know some of the lads do now and again, and at home they probably do, the way they play it is never nice to watch.”

He joked: “I put the kids channel on or something, that is probably something better to watch.” Henderson reminisced about the final day of three years ago when City beat Brighton to pip them to the title.

He said he hopes former Liverpool teammate and mentor Gerrard can help his boyhood club earn their second Premier League crown. He added: “We have had this before when they played Brighton away and they went one goal up, and the crowd cheer and you sort of know what is going on.

"It’s hard to concentrate on the game. Hopefully, we have that experience, we can learn from it and concentrate on what we need to do and hopefully Stevie and Aston Villa can do us a favour.”
