Liverpool fans believe Conor McGregor couldn't afford to purchase their club even if he wanted to.
The UFC star, who is a Manchester United fan, has claimed he would love to buy the Merseyside club.
Fenway Sports Group released a statement on Monday confirming they are open to major investment into the club. This has led to increased speculation that they have “put Liverpool up for sale”.

Replying to a Twitter user, who had suggested that he ‘buy’ Liverpool, McGregor expressed his desire to complete a purchase of the club.
He tweeted: "I WOULD LOVE IT! I requested my information on this, yes. Soon as I heard. What a turn of events! What a club! @LFC."
But a number of Liverpool supporters have reservations about McGregor claiming to try to purchase the club.
One fan wrote: "You support United, so no thanks."
Someone else said: "I'd rather be relegated."
Another supporter added: “I thought April fools day was April 1st.”
And some fans believe even if he wanted to, McGregor couldn't afford the €4.5billion price tag that Fenway Sports Group have put on the club.
One said: "He couldn’t afford to cover Salah's contract."
Another tweeted: "1. You’re a united fan 2. You can’t afford it."
Someone else commented: "Liverpool sale price is 4 billion your net worth is about 200 mil."
