Liverpool face extra Champions League threat as Premier League rivals produce dossier for Benfica

Liverpool have an extra opponent to worry about heading into their crunch Champions League clash with Benfica tonight.

It has been claimed Premier League rivals Wolves have been sharing notes with the Portuguese side before the game.

Portuguese publication A Bola have reported that Benfica have made use of their connections with Wolves manager Bruno Lage - who used to manage Benfica - to plunder all of their data and notes from their game against the Reds this season to help them prepare for tonight's Lisbon clash.

Back in December, Wolves came within 30 seconds of becoming the first team to stop Liverpool scoring this season until Divock Origi scored a 94th minute winner from a Mo Salah assist in a 1-0 win.

Until then, Wolves had shut Liverpool out, something Benfica will look to copy, with Liverpool creating few clear chances apart from a bad Diogo Jota miss.

It's claimed in Portuguese press that Wolves have given Benfica key data on offensive and defensive movements, with particular emphasis on the attacking forays made by full-backs Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson, as well the kinds of incisive runs that forwards Mo Salah and Sadio Mane make.

It also included details of how manager Jurgen Klopp changed Liverpool’s system mid-game, including moving around midfielder Thiago Alcantara into different zones on the pitch.

Jurgen Klopp was pleased with his sides’ tactics and performance on the night.

He said: “I liked the game we played because we played between lines. It was really good apart from the finishing. We missed a lot of chances and we had to defend the counter-attack of Wolves with Traore. That was the challenge today.”
