Liverpool will have to wait until summer if they are to sign reported midfield transfer target Enzo Fernandez from Benfica.
The Argentina international has starred at the World Cup in Qatar, scoring a brilliant goal in his country's crucial victory over Mexico on Saturday night.
Three Portuguese news outlets mentioned Liverpool as a possible destination for Fernandez should he leave Benfica after impressing at the World Cup for Argentina, with the Record also suggesting Real Madrid are in the hunt.

But in a further update, it has been stated that the Portuguese side won't be parting with their star this winter. That means, according to the Record, any club wanting to sign Fernandez in January will have to pay the £103m release clause in his contract.
That would be a club record fee for Liverpool, who are said to 'lead' the pursuit for the 21-year-old. The Reds, of course, did business with Benfica in the summer.
They struck a deal for Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunez that could rise to £85m, which would break the club record £75m fee paid for Virgil van Dijk.
It is well documented Liverpool are on the hunt for midfield reinforcements with Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham thought to be at the top of the list.
