Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp responds to sacking 'scrutiny' with David Moyes point

Jurgen Klopp has praised David Moyes ahead of tomorrow’s clash with West Ham - after being asked about 'scrutiny' both managers have faced this season.

Liverpool and the Hammers have suffered poor domestic campaigns but have found some form recently as they aim to end the term on a high.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Klopp said: “David is super. I know him now for six-and-a-half, seven years. Top colleague doing an incredible job.

“He’s a really nice guy. I met him a couple of times for a beer after the game. I like that he always finds a way, that makes a top manager.

"It might not have worked out years ago at Man United but that was the most difficult moment to join Man United in the history of football, coming after Sir Alex Ferguson.”

Klopp is relieved at West Ham’s turnaround because the Reds manager wanted to avoid the title of oldest manager in the league.

He said: “If West Ham sack David Moyes I would be the oldest [manager] in the league so I really want to avoid that!

“Somebody told me that before the season that I was the second oldest [manager] and I went who’s the oldest? David Moyes, so since then I [keep my] fingers crossed for West Ham. David has to stay.”

Fortunately for Klopp, if the West Ham hierarchy do decide to dismiss Moyes then he will be safe from the unwanted accolade after the return of Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson who is 75.
