LIV golf denies they have access to Graeme McDowell social media after Pro-LIV tweets

LIV golf has denied that it has access to Graeme McDowell or any other player's social media accounts after the Northern Irish golfer posted a string of Pro-LIV golf Tweets.

McDowell is among a number of high profile golfers to join the Saudi backed golf league and will tee it up next week at Trump Golf National Bedminster next week.

The 2010 US Open winner was among the first to join LIV golf and came under fire by golf fans as he faced media at his opening press conference.

And the former world number four has fired off a string of Pro-LIV tweets since joining the controversial league, branding criticism as a 'smear campaign'.

On June 19, when a Twitter use said 'Nobody is going to watch a washed up group of money hungry old men play an exhibition', McDowell fired back.

The four-time Ryder Cup winner said: "Watch this space. It will be a compelling field in no time, There is room for the sport for this product. Once the smear campaign dies down and the golf takes over, we will see."

And during last week's Open Championship coverage McDowell teased that the major should adopt the shotgun start like LIV Golf.

He said: "Quality viewing @TheOpen The unpredictability of The Old Course from bounces to weather is unlike anything in golf. Can’t turn it off. Thinking pace of play might have improved with a shotgun start? What you guys think?"

And after coming up for criticism for the suggestion, McDowell said: "Love some of the idiotic comments below. Clearly some click bait here. There’s not a more pure form of our sport than @TheOpen. The Majors are sacred and their history and tradition should always be preserved. The other 48 weeks leave room for multiple platforms within the sport."

When asked by the Irish Mirror if part of a player's commitments to LIV Golf is it included in their contracts that LIV Golf has access or input to their personal social media accounts, they responded: "No, we do not influence or have access to player social media accounts. Their views are their own."
