A trans teenager who carried out one of Canada’s deadliest school shootings had previously tried to kill his own family by setting their home ablaze, a neighbour has claimed.
18-year-old Jesse Van Rootselaar shot dead their 39-year-old mother and 11-year-old stepbrother at their home in Tumbler Ridge earlier this week before driving to Tumbler Ridge Secondary School and opening fire. Six people inside the school were killed, including a teacher and five children. The gunman then turned the weapon on himself and died from a self-inflicted shot.
