Lisa Marie Presley's little-known job working in a British fish and chip van

The world was shocked at the news of the death of Lisa Marie Presley, the only child of Elvis. It is thought that she died from a heart attack, having been found unresponsive in her Californian home.

Singer-songwriter Lisa Marie, who was once married to Michael Jackson and Nicolas Cage, spent most of her life in her native America, but she also spent time in the UK with her fourth husband, Michael Lockwood. The couple had a country mansion in Sussex, which they bought in 2010.

And it was during that time that a curious story emerged. Putting down routes in the East Sussex village of Rotherfield, she reportedly worked in a fish and chip van in the village. It was apparent that she wanted to get involved with village life, reports SussexLive.

According to SussexLive's sister title, Kent and Sussex Courier, the van, then-owned by local pub owners Kim and Justin Scales, was a job that Lisa Marie reportedly loved doing, with Kim previously saying in 2012 that the singer "could not wait to don an apron and serve people" and found it amusing when people did not know it was her. Although being the daughter of one of the most iconic singers in the world, Lisa Marie wanted to be fully integrated in life in the Sussex village and really "enjoyed" her shifts.

Lisa Marie and her family also took part in Sussex events, including a fun run where people also failed to recognise her, much to her amusement. Her previous boss, speaking of Lisa Marie, also said in the 2012 interview that "whatever she says she is going to do, she does it".

Lisa Marie and Michael were also known to be regulars at local pub The King's Arms, where she enjoyed a pint of Guinness and chatting to fellow locals. She previously said that she preferred life in England, calling it "simple" and loving the fact neighbours greeted her with "cards and flowers", which didn't happen in her Californian neighbourhood.

Having moved from a fairly hectic life in America, Elvis and Priscilla Presley's daughter was able to relax in her Rotherfield mansion, known as Coes Hill, and even wrote her third album here. The property, which Lisa Marie and Michael sold for more than £3million, boasted a cinema room, a pool, huge gardens, stables and a large 50 acres of land.

Despite loving her home and life in Sussex, the singer moved back to America with her children to continue her career in her home country. Having released various albums, Lisa Marie and her four children were thought to have moved back to California, with Lisa Marie losing one of her children to suicide in 2020.

While back in America, Lisa Marie was reported to have made various visits back to Graceland, with her last visit being less than a week before her death. Over the past few years she and her mum Priscilla had been working on the production of the Elvis movie, for which Austin Butler - who played the role of her father - won an award at the Golden Globes, attended by her just two days before her death.

In the statement announcing Lisa Marie's death aged 54, her mum Priscilla said: "It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us. She was the most passionate, strong and loving woman I have ever known. We ask for privacy as we try to deal with this profound loss."
