Lionel Messi is reportedly more likely to leave Paris Saint-Germain than stay with the French side.
Messi is out of contract in the summer with the two-year deal he signed upon leaving Barcelona at the end of the 2020/21 season expiring at the end of the current campaign. Barcelona have made it clear they wish to reunite with the Argentina legend having been left with no option but to watch the player sign for PSG in 2021 because of financial restrictions on the Nou Camp side.
However, after winning the World Cup with his country last year Messi is even more of an attraction for teams wishing to add star power to their ranks. Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly is said to have registered an interest in signing Messi and with the American having already spent £600 million on new players, he could make a marquee signing in the PSG forward.
Messi was jeered at by PSG supporters before the 1-0 defeat to Olympique Lyon on Sunday night with some supporters unhappy at the 'galactico' policy of the club's hierarchy with big-money signings Neymar and Kylian Mbappe underperforming. It has been reported in the French media that Messi is increasingly likely to leave the Parc de Princes come the end of the campaign.
RMC report that Messi 'will in all likelihood' depart PSG, via Get French Football News. Chelsea could make a move for Messi as Boehly and co-owner Clearlake Capital look to increase the club's revenues with the target £1 billion.
Bringing in Messi would grow the club's brand further and enhance its reputation worldwide along with the allure of having a superstar in the team. If Messi is available come the summer, Boehly and the club's owners face a big decision over whether to make a move for the player.
