Limited-edition print of Banksy's iconic artwork to go under the hammer in Newcastle

A limited-edition print of one of Banksy's most iconic pieces of work is to go under the hammer in Newcastle. Newcastle Auction House Anderson and Garland are selling one of Banksy's most famous works, 'Love Rat'.

Numbered 335/600, this screenprint, which was originally a graffiti piece in Liverpool, is being put up for sale as part of The Modern Art and Design Auction which takes place this week. It comes after a record-breaking sale of an original work of art by Banksy earlier this year.

The 'Love Rat' piece carries an estimate of £30,000 - £50,000 but auctioneers have said "the sky is the limit" for this sought-after print. Banksy's real name and identity remain unconfirmed and the subject of speculation. His street art often combines dark humour with graffiti.

Julian Thomson, Managing Director of Anderson & Garland said: "This exciting piece carries an estimate of £30,000 - £50,000, however as one of the most sought after and iconic of Banksy’s designs, the sky really is the limit!

"Following the successful launch of our Urban Art Department earlier this year, and the fantastic result achieved with the sale of Banksy’s Merrivale Stable in January, we’ve really put out name on the map with Urban Art collectors."

Alongside this superb piece, there are also ten smaller Banksy-related lots available as part of The Modern Art and Design Auction. The auction will take place on Thursday, June 16, and begins at 10 am.
