Lili Reinhart has brought one of the most recognizable fashion moments from an early-2000s romantic comedy into her own The Love Hypothesis press tour.
On September 6, Reinhart shared photographs from Brazil wearing a long, butter-yellow silk dress inspired by the gown Kate Hudson wore as Andie Anderson in the 2003 film How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. Reinhart made the reference explicit in her Instagram caption, writing that she was "paying homage" to Hudson and pairing the images with Carly Simon's "You're So Vain," the song featured prominently in the movie.
The look was not simply similar in color. According to ELLE, Reinhart wore a 2000s Caché dupe of the original Carolina Herrera gown. Her stylist, Ib Abdel Nasser, told the publication that the Caché dress had been released soon after the movie.
The Original Carolina Herrera Gown
Hudson's original dress was created specifically for the film by Carolina Herrera in collaboration with costume designer Karen Patch, according to ELLE. The gown became closely associated with the film's DeLauer gala sequence, where Andie attends the event wearing the yellow dress and the Harry Winston Isadora diamond necklace.
The unusual yellow shade also had a specific reason behind it. In Vanity Fair's oral history of How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Hudson recalled that Patch liked the color of the Isadora, a yellow diamond in the Harry Winston necklace, and worked with the Carolina Herrera team to create the dress.

That connection between the dress and necklace was therefore part of the original costume design rather than an incidental styling choice. Vanity Fair also notes that Hudson's character's iconic dress appeared both in the movie and on its poster, helping establish it as one of the film's most recognizable visual elements.
For Reinhart's version, the silhouette retained several of the recognizable features associated with Hudson's gown. InStyle describes the dress as having a V-neckline, a backless criss-cross design and a flowing maxiskirt.
Reinhart's Take on the Movie Look
Rather than reproducing Hudson's jewelry styling, Reinhart accessorized the yellow gown with diamond chandelier earrings by Zydo Italy, supplied through D'Orazio World, according to InStyle. The earrings provided the principal jewelry detail for Reinhart's version of the look.
Hudson's original styling centered on the Harry Winston yellow diamond necklace, making the difference between the two versions particularly clear. Reinhart retained the most recognizable element, the butter-yellow gown, while using different jewelry for her own appearance.
Reinhart wore the dress at a hotel in Brazil after completing the Latin American press junket for The Love Hypothesis, according to ELLE. The appearance gives the film's promotional wardrobe a direct connection to one of the better-known fashion moments from the romantic-comedy genre.
More Rom-Com Homages Are Planned
The Kate Hudson reference is also intended to be the beginning of a larger idea for Reinhart's press tour.
Nasser told ELLE that Reinhart will pay homage to leading ladies from what he described as the "Golden Age" of romantic comedies and romance films throughout the press tour. He explained that the team wanted to begin with something especially recognizable for the Brazil portion of the campaign.
That makes the butter-yellow gown more than a standalone throwback. It establishes the styling concept Reinhart and Nasser are using for the The Love Hypothesis promotional campaign, beginning with a direct reference to Hudson's Andie Anderson.
For a film built around romance, the choice is also particularly specific: Reinhart is not simply wearing a vintage-inspired yellow gown, but recreating a recognizable piece of romantic-comedy costume history through a 2000s Caché version of the original Carolina Herrera design.
