Lightwater Valley to reopen with ticket price discount on first two weekends

A family-friendly theme park within an hour and a half's drive from Newcastle will reopen this weekend. Lightwater Valley, near Ripon, North Yorkshire, returns for the spring-summer season on Saturday March 26.

Admission now includes access to the Treetop Trails, as well as the theme park itself.

"This exciting net walk-through experience gives families the opportunity to explore the woodland canopy high above the Park and have fun jumping through the giant springy nets suspended up to 12 metres from the ground," says Lightwater Valley on its website.

"Practice your agility and get a head for heights as kids big and small build up their confidence to bounce along the springy nets. Completely surrounded by high net walls, you can play in the trees without a need for a harness.

There are new attractions opening in 2022, including a Virtual Reality (VR) experience, dodgems, and the Twist and Turn ride.

However, the park's famous rollercoaster, The Ultimate, will not reopen in 2022, and it is unlikely to return at all, Gazzette Live reports, as Lightwater Valley shifts to aim itself more at younger children.

Lightwater Valley opening times and ticket prices 2022

The theme park is open between 10.30am and 5pm.

Tickets are 30% for the trips on Saturday March 26, Sunday March 27, Saturday April 2, and Sunday April 3. The discount means an entry ticket bought online costs £14.35 instead of the usual £23.50

Remember to check height and supervision requirements for rides.

Is 'The Ultimate' open or closed? What's happened?

The Ultimate has been closed since 2019 and won't return in 2022 (Lightwater Valley)

It was Europe's longest rollercoaster, but The Ultimate will not reopen in 2022.

The Ultimate did not operate in either the 2020 or 2021 seasons and will remain shut in 2022.

The ride is not included on Lightwater Valley's list of attractions for 2022. Neither are Raptor Attack or Apollo.

As Gazette Live reports, Lightwater Valley has shifted more towards the under 12 market and has taken the decision not to reopen the Ultimate.

"As a result of this recalibration we have retired a couple of our much older rides and do know that this will be disappointing to some visitors seeking thrill rides," park manager Colin Bowes has previously said.
