Ali Day has hammered home the importance of surf lifesaving's Olympic push as the decorated champion aims to bow out with a sixth Iron Series title and then become a firefighter.

The 11-time Coolangatta Gold winner will race as a professional for the last time this weekend, at his home break at Miami in an elimination grand finale.
