Life in the 'lovely' Leeds street where houses are 'dirt cheap' and 'nobody ever bothers you'

The postcode area of LS11 has the cheapest properties in Leeds. The area, mainly Beeston has recorded average house prices between £45,000 and £50,000 - making the houses some of the most affordable in the city.

The cheapest areas in Leeds are around Beeston, Holbeck, Harehills and further out of the city centre, not quite the suburbs but not inner city. The cheapest street on average in Leeds is Woodview Place in Beeston, the average house price is £46,420.

LeedsLive spoke to a number of residents who live on Woodview Place and the surrounding streets to ask them what it's like living on Leeds' cheapest street, and why they decided to move there.

Margaret, 66, has only lived on the street for a year having moved in a rush after their landlady sold another property. She says she likes the street and was surprised to hear how cheap some of the other houses are.

She said: "It's lovely, nobody bothers you, we had to move because our landlady was selling the place, I've only been here a year so far but I can't fault it, no issues, you get the occasional people shouting down the street but you'll get that anywhere. I was surprised at the cost, some of these houses are dirt cheap."

Julie, 63, lives not far from Woodview in Back Trentham Place, she bought her house 30 years ago for £23,950 she has no idea what the house is worth now but says she has no plans on moving. Julie said: "I've lived here 30 years, when I bought the house it was worth £23,950, no clue what it's worth now, I keep meaning to get it valued.

"You do get the occasional issues, I walked out of my street and saw a group of men get out of a car with machetes, everywhere is the same, but I'd never move, I like living here, I like the neighbours, why change?"

One resident on Woodview moved up to Leeds from London and said the prices were "unbelievable." Keith, 67, has only lived on the street for a few months but says anywhere is cheaper than London.

He said: I've not longed moved in, me and my wife lived in London, everywhere is cheaper than London of course but here is on another level. It's early days and we'll see how things go but to get a house for double figures is unbelievable.

"I lived in Camden which has gone to mental prices and my wife needed to move to Leeds, we didn't know it was going to be as cheap as it was"
