Liel Abada insists Celtic treble would trump all Rangers trash talk after Fashion Sakala was silenced with Viaplay victory

Liel Abada insists Celtic don’t need any pep talks from across the city as targeting the Treble would settle any debates.

The Parkhead ace ignored the pre-match noise coming from Rangers ahead of Sunday’s Viaplay Cup Final win. Fashion Sakala claimed the Light Blues were better than the champions but Ange Postecoglou’s men did their talking on the pitch. Abada was thrilled to bag the first trophy of the season and set sights on the clean sweep. Celts have a nine-point lead in the Premiership – with a big goal advantage – and face Hearts in the last eight of the Scottish Cup.

But, ahead of Sunday’s clash with St Mirren, Abada said: “We don’t worry about what anyone else says, we focus on our football and trying to win. Is the target a Treble? We want to win every trophy but we have to work hard every day. It was an amazing moment at the whistle, the atmosphere was incredible. I’m always happy to win a trophy.

“We enjoyed the moment but the boss doesn’t let anyone look too far ahead, one game at a time. He always tells us to focus on the next game, next opponent, that’s it. We know what we have to do and we have to keep going.”

Meanwhile, Celtic face a fixture headache after the 2024 Asia Cup dates were revealed. The Hoops could miss SEVEN stars to the tournament held from January 12 to February 10. Aaron Mooy is set to join up with Australia, while Daizen Maeda, Kyogo and Reo Hatate are in the frame for Japan with Tomoki Iwata and Yuki Kobayashi hopefuls.

Oh Hyeon-gyu will also be hoping to get the call from South Korea. Even with a winter break, Celts may be without them for up to three weeks and could ask for a postponement.
