Lidl has people in stitches with a hilarious sign facing an Aldi store next door.
Discount retailer Lidl opened its latest supermarket in Knocknacarra, Co Galway today and it’s right beside rival Aldi.
Ahead of the official opening, a hilarious sign popped up facing the Aldi shop.

The poster features the familiar yellow and blue colours along with the Lidl logo and a person peering through binoculars. It has just four words - ‘Keep Your Friends Close’.
Danny McLaughlin posted about the amusing sign on Twitter, describing it as “top trolling”.
He wrote: “Lidl are opening a new store in Galway. It’s next door to an Aldi. This sign is facing the Aldi store. Top trolling.”
A few Twitter users finished the sentence: “And keep your enemies closer!”
Thousands of people have ‘liked’ the Tweet with many praising the humour.
“Well played Lidl,” one person wrote.
Another added: “I absolutely adore marketing like this.”
A third said: “I love when multinational companies are banterful.”
Other responses included “brilliant”, “nice work” and “priceless”.
With the stores now right next to each other, another person joked: “Soon you’ll be able to say, ‘I’m off to Laldi’!”
The new state-of-the-art Lidl Knocknacarra store officially opened on Thursday, creating 30 permanent jobs.
The 1,546sqm shop floor has high ceilings, wide aisles and incorporates a large bakery area with freshly baked breads and pastries.
The environmentally friendly shop has roof mounted solar panels and is powered by 100% green renewable electricity.
Commenting at the opening, store manager Pauline McLoughlin said: “We are delighted to finally open the doors to our brand-new store in Knocknacarra. The store will offer customers an even better shopping experience with its spacious design, ample parking and sustainability features throughout.
“The new store is a positive addition to the local area of Knocknacarra making our fantastic range of top-quality produce available at the best possible prices. We look forward to welcoming customers.”
