Lidl shoppers in stitches after spotting awkward spelling mistake in bakery aisle

Lidl shoppers have been left giggling after an unfortunate spelling mistake in the bakery aisle was shared on social media.

The bakery section of the German supermarket chain is hugely popular amongst shoppers. No matter what you fancy, whether it's a loaf of bread, pastries or sweet treats, you'll be able to find it freshly baked at Lidl for a very affordable price.

But when one customer paid a recent visit to have a browse of the much-loved aisle, they noticed one of the signs didn't look quite as it was supposed to.

The Star reports that the spelling blunder was spotted beside the Belgian buns - glossy, round treats filled with lemon curd and sultanas, and topped with fondant icing and a glace cherry.

But instead of the normal Lidl price labels that are printed out, this one had been handwritten - with one glaring mistake.

Instead of reading 'sweet bun', the staff member jotted down something that most people wouldn't find appetising at all.

The handwritten sign instead read 'sweat bun'.

People were quick to comment on the hilarious mistake in the comment section. One giggled: "It's salty but sweet all at the same time..."

Another user added: "I mean, try it, maybe it’s better than it sounds."

While a third penned: "Love a Belgium bun!"

Someone else mocked: "Try it sweaty, you might like it."

This isn't the first time a supermarket has made a stark error in its stores that has been picked up by shoppers posting it on social media.

Recently a woman was stunned to find a packet of Easter marshmallows in Aldi that didn't look quite like the rabbits that they were supposed to.

Posting a picture of the offending sweets to Twitter, she wrote: "Sorry Aldi, but that ain't a bunny," alongside some crying emojis.

And after noticing the funny side, a spokesperson from Aldi responded: "We can't even defend this one."
