Liam Neeson reveals he was being considered for James Bond

Liam Neeson has revealed he was once in the running to play the role of James Bond.

Speaking on NBC'S The Rich Eisen Show, the Ballymena born actor was grilled on a number of rumours during the show's "Celebrity True or False" segment.

One such question was when he was asked whether it was true he had turned down playing James Bond in 1995's Golden Eye.

Answering that the rumour was false, Liam provided the full background to where it came from, recalling the period before Pierce Brosnan was selected for the role.

Neeson claimed to be one of the actors they were considering for the part, stating that casting directors has "sent out feelers" in his direction.

However, he was never offered the role, but said he would have had to turn it down even if he was.

He said: “I remember my dear, departed wife [Natasha Richardson] said to me — we were shooting a film in North Carolina called Nell — and she looked at me straight in the face and she said, ‘Liam, if you’re offered this and if you do it, you know we can’t get married.'

"And that was it."

Liam Neeson and Natasha Richardson were married in 1994, and Richardson died in 2009 after sustaining a head injury during a skiing accident.

The pair first met in 1993 while working on Broadway’s Anna Christie.
