Lewis Capaldi makes heartbreaking announcement after Glastonbury struggles

Lewis Capaldi has announced he will take another break from showbiz after his performance at Glastonbury.

The 26-year-old singer had already cancelled all work commitments in the run up to his performance at this weekend’s festival.

But at the end of his set the Scottish star appeared to hint he planned to take more time off for his mental health.

After struggling to get through some of his set on the iconic Pyramid Stage as his voice was “packing in”, Lewis told fans: “I feel like I’ll be taking another wee break over the next couple of weeks, so you probably won’t see much of me for the rest of the year maybe even.

“But when I do come back, when I do see you, I hope you’re all still up for watching.”

Addressing his break from the spotlight to the Glastonbury crowd on Saturday, Lewis got emotional as he explained what had been happening in his life.

He told the crowd: “I recently took three weeks off just because I’ve been non-stop the past year and I wanted to take a wee break from my head for my mental health.

“I wanted to come back and do Glastonbury because it’s obviously so incredible, so I just want to thank you all for coming out. I was scared but you’ve really made me feel at ease so thank you very much for that.”

The star, who also has Tourette’s Syndrome, apologised to festival-goers as he started to lose his voice while singing.

Lewis said “I’m going to be honest everybody, I’m starting to lose my voice up here, but we’re going to keep going and we’re going to go until the end. I just need you all to sing with me as loud as you can if that’s okay?“

“We’re gonna play two more songs if that’s okay, even if I can’t sing properly,“ he told the audience.

“I’m really sorry before I go any further. You’ve all come out and I’m really apologising. My voice is packing in.“

As the show came to an emotional end, Lewis was reduced to tears as the crowd finished off his hit song Someone You Loved.

Taking to Twitter afterwards, fans praised his “brilliant” performance and promised they would still be there when he was ready to return to music.

One said: “Bravo @LewisCapaldi. A brilliant set and well done for carrying on. Absolutely no need to apologse for a fantastic show.”

“Blown away @LewisCapaldi at Glastonbury. I’ve been coming for years and that’s one of the best sets I’ve ever seen. Everyone around me was WEEPING at the end. Amazing,” wrote a second.

A third added: “Fantastic show at Glastonbury mate, take a break. Your health comes first.”
