Lewis Capaldi forced to move into Glasgow flat because £1.6M farmhouse is a 'hell hole'

Lewis Capaldi had told a US radio station that the Scots farmhouse he bought for £1.6 million on the advice of Ed Sheeran is a "hell hole".

The West Lothian singer snapped up the gaff after pal Ed found it on the internet for him. But Lewis says the place on the outskirts of Glasgow stinks of "fags and dog".

The Someone You Loved singer also hated the decor and quickly decided to move to a flat in Glasgow. Capaldi, 26, originally from Whitburn, is now having the property renovated before moving back in.

He said: "Ed Sheeran told me to buy this house and it's an absolute hell hole. We were talking during lockdown about how I wanted to move out of my parents' house and he went online and looked at this place and it looked great.

Lewis Capaldi recently scooped a third UK Number One (Official Charts)

"From the outside it is beautiful, there's sprawling hills, there's a lake. He didn't realise that it would smell of cigarette smoke and dog. I moved in and I hated the decor, I hated everything about it.

"I did go and see it but I was too eager. I was like 'That smell of dog and smoke will go away after a while,' but it didn't. We have ripped that place out and it still reeks of dog and smoke."

Speaking on US radio, he added: "I have made some bad decisions over the last two years and that was one of them. I am redoing the house. Ed Sheeran should technically reimburse me for the money I'm having to pay on this.

"Ed is a property tycoon but he's never bought a place in Scotland obviously because mine is awful."

Earlier this year, Capaldi was given permission to build an extension to the property which will include a swimming pool, changing rooms, a spa and sauna.

The star had already been given the green light to convert old stables into an exercise room and a gym. His renovation plans also include a media room, home cinema, an expanded master bedroom and a new kitchen.

Last month Capaldi's song Forget Me, the first single from his second album, went straight to the top of the charts.
