A routine afternoon ride home from school quickly turned chaotic in rural Northern California on Aug. 24, when a Calaveras Unified School District bus became the center of an hour-long standoff. By the time it was over, students were climbing through open windows, parents were forcing their way onto the bus and an adult had been taken into custody by local law enforcement.
The incident happened along Highway 49 near Russell Road in Calaveras County and was captured in videos that have since spread across social media. According to reports, the trouble began when the bus driver stopped the vehicle and refused to let the children off, citing concerns about their behavior.
