Leon King gives early Rangers insight into life under Michael Beale as he hails 'amazing' start

Leon King has opened up on the early days of Michael Beale's Rangers tenure and admits it's been 'amazing'.

The 18-year-old has been thrown into the deep end this season due to the Light Blues' injury crisis in defence with Filip Helander, John Souttar, Connor Goldson and Ben Davies all struggling with injuries. The latter two are set to return to training this week and could make returns against Hibs on Thursday night in a major boost to the Ibrox side.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst - who has since been sacked - had to call on the youngster for big Champions League games against the likes of Liverpool and Napoli while he was also a key feature in the Premiership over the past couple of months. He was once again in from the start in Beale's first game in charge alongside James Sands. King has hailed the intensity of training under the new boss as he heaped praise on his fellow academy graduates who featured in the 3-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen.

Speaking to RangersTV, he said: “I thought it was great to give the whole squad a run out back in front of the fans at Ibrox again, and it was a commanding victory as well.

“It’s been coming. We’ve been training with an intensity since the new manager has come in. It’s been amazing and I’m glad to be part of it. We want to keep clean sheets in every game that we play in and this is just the start.”

He continued: “It’s amazing and the boys deserve it. They’ve been doing unbelievable in the Lowland League so it’s congratulations to Robbie [Fraser] for making his debut.

“I’m buzzing [to return to league action]. It’s been a while and obviously the last league game that I played, I took a knock so I don’t remember much about it. It will be good to get back out there and play league games in front of the fans again.”
