Leighton Clarkson is on the verge of a stunning return to Aberdeen after arriving at Pittodrie to seal a deal for next season.
The young midfielder was a standout at Pittodrie on loan from Liverpool last season and as revealed by Record Sport two weeks ago, the English Premier League giants have told the 21-year-old he is free to leave. A transfer fee had been agreed between the Anfield club and the Dons. Now STV say that “Leighton Clarkson is in the building” and it will be a “done deal”.
Clarkson has been pictured on holiday in recent weeks and tweeted himself with a sunglasses emojis and Reds fans have been whipped up into a frenzy over the possibility of him returning. Clarkson was a pivotal part of the Aberdeen side that managed to secure third place in the Scottish Premiership in a tumultuous season under Jim Goodwin and Barry Robson.
Clarkson would become Robson’s second signing of the summer following the capture of Nicky Devlin from Livingston. Slovenia U21 striker Ester Sokler is also due to complete his move to the Granite City this week.
