Leeds United FC 1 - 2 Aston Villa FC

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

16:08

A second half brace from Rogers saw Aston Villa come from behind to defeat Leeds United 2-1 and move into the top four of the Premier League table. The home side were the better team in the first half and took the lead as Villa failed to deal with a set-piece. Stach had an effort cleared off the line, but Konsa's clearance struck Nmecha and found its way into the empty net. There was a lack of rhythm in Villa's play during the half, but they improved as it drew to a close, with Watkins inches away from the far corner with a curling effort. Emery made changes at the break, and they worked wonders as substitute Malen set up Rogers to score inside the first two minutes of the second half. Villa gained control of the half and found the winner through Rogers, as his dipping free-kick nestled into the back of the net. Leeds thought they had scored the equaliser just a minute later but Calvert-Lewin had handled the ball. Leeds ended the match with an xG of 1.55 to 1.21 for Villa. While Villa are flying high after a ninth win in 11 games overall, Leeds are in the relegation zone and the pressure will increase on Farke. That's all from me, thank you and goodbye!

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

FULL-TIME: LEEDS UNITED 1-2 ASTON VILLA

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

16:00

Longstaff takes the delivery from the left but it's headed out. Gnonto and James have efforts blocked on the edge of the area and Villa are now in possession of the ball. They are minutes away from a sixth league win in seven games.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

16:00

Leeds seem out of ideas. They've had plenty of the ball in the last five minutes, but Villa seem settled in their defensive shape. Cash needlessly brings down Gnonto and the home side have a set-piece in a promising area.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

15:57

Leeds have received five yellow cards this afternoon (Gnonto, Struijk, Ampadu, Tanaka and Bogle), the Whites' most in a Premier League match since March 2023 (five v Wolves), whilst they last received more in a top-flight match in February 2022 - six v Manchester United.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

15:55

James has been bright since he has come on, but makes a terrible choice here as he cuts inside and strikes an effort at goal from outside the area, but it's miles away from finding the target and Leeds have to build yet another attack.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

15:54

There will be six minutes of additional time for the second half.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

15:52

Gnonto is booked for fouling Malen on the touchline, catching the Dutchman in the face with an outstretched arm.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

15:53

CHANCE! Leeds win a free-kick from around 25 yards out. It's whipped in by Longstaff and met by Struijck, who rises highest, but Martinez is down to his right and parries the ball away from danger. He concedes the corner but Villa clear the ball away.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

15:51

Leeds will remain in the bottom three if the score remains the same after the final whistle. In contrast, Villa will move into the top four. That was frankly unthinkable after the first five league games of the season, which saw Emery's men fail to win any of them.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

15:48

A defensive change for Villa as Tielemans is replaced by Bogarde.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

15:49

Another chance for the visitors! Villa and Malen squander the chance to seal the three points! The visitors turn defence into attack quickly and the Dutchman shrugs off the challenge of Struijk from just inside the area, but he fires an effort wide of the target! He had done the hard part.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

15:48

To Leeds' credit, they have wrestled back control of this match as they desperately search for an equaliser. Most of the match is now being played in Villa's half. Nevertheless, Martinez hasn't had a save to make in this half.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

15:44

Rogers is the first Aston Villa player to score a brace at Elland Road in the Premier League after Gareth Southgate in January 2000.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

15:43

Another substitution as Aaronson is replaced by Piroe.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

15:43

Leeds are throwing the kitchen sink now as Gnonto comes on for Okafor.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

15:43

BIG DRAMA! A minute later, it looks like the home side have found an equaliser as James beats the offside trap and lifts a deflected effort into the back of the net! However, replays show that it struck the arm of Calvert-Lewin and it won't count! A big blow for Leeds.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

15:39

GOOALLLL!!!!!!! VILLA HAVE COME FROM BEHIND TO LEAD! It's Rogers again! He takes the free-kick and his dipping effort goes over the wall and beats Perri! A moment of real quality from the England international! Leeds United 1-2 Aston Villa.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

15:39

Calvert-Lewin's first contribution sees his shot from distance blocked. Leeds now have a target man if they choose to go long during the last 15 minutes of the match, while James can offer width and pace.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

15:37

GOOOALLLL!!!!!! LEEDS SCORE FROM THE SET-PIECE! It's not pretty but they won't care! Longstaff's delivery causes panic in the Villa backline, as Martinez fails to clear it away with a punch and goes down. Konsa's clearance strikes Nmecha on the foot and ends up in the back of the net! Leeds United 1-0 Aston Villa.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

15:37

Struijk is now booked for a rash challenge on Barkley right on the edge of the area.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

15:36

Malen has made a huge impact from the bench. He causes Leeds problems once again as he drifts into a deeper area and collects a cross from Sancho on his chest, before swivelling and striking on his left foot. The contact isn't great and he scuffs his effort wide, but there are encouraging signs for the visitors that they could find a winner.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

15:35

The goalscorer Nmecha is also being replaced by James.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

15:35

The substitute is being substituted as Tanaka comes off for Calvert-Lewin.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

15:35

Leeds are on the ropes at the moment. Villa make a number of short passes inside the area, before Rogers sets up Tielemans to strike but Rodon makes a firm block to deny the Belgian. He's been one of the best players for the home side today.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

15:32

McGinn comes off for Barkley, who seems to be playing off Malen now.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

15:31

Sancho is coming on for Watkins as Villa make another change.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

15:33

Villa threaten once more as McGinn is picked out on the edge of the area. He cuts back onto his left foot and aims for that far corner, but there's too much on the strike and it drifts over the crossbar. That will be his last contribution of this match.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

15:31

Okafor does well to play a through pass to Aaronson. However, once the American takes control of the ball, the flag goes up for offside. Replays show he may just have stayed onside. That was a decent opening for Leeds, who have simply not offered much in an offensive sense in this second half.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

15:30

Leeds have now been shown three yellow cards (Ampadu, Tanaka and Bogle), their joint-most in a Premier League match this season (along with three v West Ham United in October). They've made a number of strong challenges today.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

15:28

Cash seems to have gained the upper hand on Okafor in the last few minutes and wins the ball off the winner to start an attack for Villa. Like many of the Villa players, he's been much improved in the second half.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

15:27

Ampadu is now booked for a cynical foul on Tielemans as he looked to get forward for Villa.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

15:25

The match has become a bit more settled, with Leeds returning to a more compact shape. However, Villa are enjoying plenty of the ball and look dangerous every time they go forward. The changes have made a difference for the away side, notably Malen down the right as McGinn has drifted more centrally.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

15:24

After failing to register a single shot on target in the first half, Aston Villa have managed three inside the opening 12 minutes of the second period. That just highlights how improved Emery's men have been at the start of this half.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

15:22

No Villa player has more goal involvements in the Premier League in 2025 than Rogers with 13. He's got his tail up after the goal and wins a corner for his side, but Leeds clear it away.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

15:20

The game is becoming more stretched and it's beginning to suit Villa, as there's more space in behind for their attackers to exploit. They hit Leeds on the break, with Watkins isolating the Leeds backline and curling an effort at goal but Perri is down to make a sharp stop.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

15:18

McGinn is booked for fouling Gudmundsson. Leeds take the free-kick but Villa clear the danger away.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

15:17

Leeds go forward for the first time in the second half as Okafor cuts inside from the left. His touch is a bit too heavy, but he ends up teeing Longstaff off for an effort at goal, but it's a wild effort and goes well wide of the goal. The home fans are frustrated for the first time this afternoon.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

15:17

Farke will be incandescent with rage. His side produced a brilliant performance in the first half but their level dropped in the first few minutes of the second, and they've been made to pay. They need to regroup here, as it's all Villa.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

15:18

Leeds create an opportunity for the first time in this half. Okafor drifts inside from the left, with his heavy touch inadvertendly setting up Longstaff for an effort at goal from distance. However, it's a wild effort and flies well wide of the goal. The home fans are frustrated for the first time this afternoon.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

15:12

Malen has been on the pitch for a matter of minutes but makes the necessary impact with the cross, and gets the assist. The Dutchman continues to be productive in the Premier League for Villa this season.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

15:12

GOOOALLLL!!!!!! EQUALISER! Leeds have barely had a kick of the ball at the start of this second half. McGinn picks out Cash down the right, who then finds Malen in space. The Dutchman has just one thing on his mind and delivers a fine cross for Rogers at the near post, and he makes no mistake as he lifts an effort over Perri. Game on at Elland Road. Leeds United 1-1 Aston Villa.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

15:10

Aston Villa get us going for the second half!

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

15:09

A change at the break for the visitors as Digne is replaced by Maatsen.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

15:09

Another substitution at half-time for Villa as Buendia comes off for Malen.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

14:58

Leeds will move out of the relegation places if they were to hold onto this precious lead. There was pressure on Farke before the match, but he will be proud of the effort shown by his players in that first half. However, there's still a half of football to go and Villa are one of the most in-form teams in the league, as they aim for a sixth league win in seven matches and a ninth win in 11 games in all competitions. The live win probability has Leeds' chances of winning at 48.6%, with Villa at 22.9% and the possibility of a draw standing at 28.5%.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

14:55

Leeds United lead Aston Villa 1-0 at the break. The home side have been the better team and went in front within the first 10 minutes of the match. It came from a set-piece, as Longstaff's delivery caused problems in the penalty area for the away side, with Stach having an effort cleared off the line and Nmecha being in the right place as Konsa's clearance struck him on the foot and went into the net. The intensity of Farke's men has put Villa under pressure on numerous occasions, with Aaronson also going close with an effort. Villa did find their footing towards the end of the half and nearly equalised after a curling strike from Watkins, but they will need to improve after the break. In terms of xG, Leeds have created 1.01 to Villa's 0.57.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

14:53

HALF-TIME: LEEDS UNITED 1-0 ASTON VILLA

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

14:51

Villa are enjoying their best spell of the match in the final few minutes of the half and win a corner. It's taken by Digne, but Leeds clear their lines and can move up the pitch. They've been the better side in this half and will be desperate to remain with the advantage at half-time.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

14:49

Tanaka is booked for a reckless challenge on Kamara. The ball had already gone, and the Villa players are visibly angry with the tackle. The substitute is fortunate to get away with just a yellow card there.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

14:49

SO CLOSE! Out of nowhere, Villa are inches away from an equaliser. It's rather straight-forward in its construction, as some neat possession on the edge of the area leads to Buendia setting up Watkins to strike a curling effort from outside the area, but he can't quite bend his effort into the far corner. There was a hushed silence around the ground when he hit that effort - some Leeds fans thought that had gone in.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

14:48

There will be six minutes of additional time for the first half.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

14:46

This match has been physical and direct, with a number of challenges flying in. There has been as many fouls conceded in this half (14) as touches in the opposition's box (12 for Leeds, two for Aston Villa).

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

14:46

Villa create an opening as some neat interplay sees Tielemans lift an effort into the path of Cash. The Poland international controls the ball and sets it onto his left foot, but his effort is never troubling Perri in the Leeds goal.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

14:45

Five minutes to go until the break and Villa have produced a lifeless display so far. They have been unbeaten against Leeds since October 2020, but that streak is in danger of ending if they don't improve their performance.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

14:44

McGinn lifts his cross into the area but Leeds clear the ball away. There's plenty of height in their side and it certainly has its rewards when Farke's men are defending a set-piece. This has been one of their most comfortable halves of football since their return to the top-flight at the start of the campaign.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

14:42

Bogle receives the first booking of the day for bundling Buendia over. That was needless and Villa now have a free-kick in Leeds' half.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

14:41

CHANCE! It comes from the set-piece as Longstaff's delivery is only half-cleared and reaches Aaronson on the edge of the area. He strikes his effort well, but Martinez is down quickly to make a strong save.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

14:40

There's a lack of intensity when it comes to Villa at the moment, and Leeds seem far more up for this contest right now. Cash is forced to concede a corner. Okafor has had the beating of him on numerous occasions in this half.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

14:37

Okafor is again a threat for Leeds as he isolates Cash and goes on the outside, before delivering a cross for Nmecha. The forward goes down in the area and complains to the referee, believing he was bundled over by Torres, but no foul is given.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

14:36

Digne is making his 100th Premier League start for Aston Villa, becoming only the fourth French player to start 100+ games for two different clubs (also 111 starts for Everton) after Gael Clichy, Sylvain Distin and William Gallas.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

14:35

The likes of Buendia and Watkins are playing off scraps, and Villa are struggling to progress the ball up the pitch. Leeds look the bigger threat, with Okafor causing problems down the left and producing a cutback intended for Nmecha, but Torres steps out to make a fine intervention.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

14:34

Half an hour has passed and Villa are yet to create a real opportunity of note. Rogers has been largely anonymous, while Watkins is losing the battle with Rodon right now. Emery's men have the chance to move into the top four with a win, but they will need to improvely significantly to achieve that.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

14:30

Villa are unbeaten in all 17 of their Premier League games against promoted sides under Emery, with their last defeat coming in Steven Gerrard’s final game in charge in October 2022 against Fulham. It's a fine record but it's in danger of ending at Elland Road this afternoon.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

14:29

Cash has all the time in the world to deliver a curling cross from the right, aimed at Watkins. It looks like the England international is about to plant a header at goal from yards out, but Rodon is positioned well to snuff out the danger. The Welshman has made a few integral interceptions in this match.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

14:27

After starting and playing the full 90 minutes in all of Leeds United's first six Premier League matches this season, Stach has since been substituted off in three of his last four in the competition. That will be a worry for Farke.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

14:26

Leeds threaten as Nmecha rampages down the right and beats Torres for pace. He aims for Aaronson at the front post, but the American can't get the correct contact on the cross and it goes out for a goal-kick. The home side are showing how much of a threat they can be when they go direct.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

14:23

Statch's afternoon is over prematurely, with Tanaka replacing him.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

14:23

Stach is now done and requiring treatment after that sequence of play. It looks like the German is going to have to be replaced - this is an early blow for the home side after an encouraging start. He played a crucial role in the first goal with his header.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

14:21

Villa look to be in business for the first time as McGinn frees Watkins with a firm pass but Rodon gets back quickly and recovers to make a strong challenge. He receives great applause from the home crowd for that bit of defending. It's been a really encouraging start from Leeds here.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

14:20

Another set-piece for Leeds, albeit from a deeper position. It's taken by Longstaff again, but Martinez is able to gather safely after Rodon keeps the ball alive with a header at the back post. He did not cover himself in glory during the first goal, and the World Cup winner has to improve if Villa are to find a way back into this match.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

14:19

Villa have started to get some possession going after conceding, but there's nothing for Leeds to worry about at the moment. Buendia goes down after a heavy challenge but the referee doesn't award a foul, and the Argentine takes a long time to get back on his feet, much to the anger of the Elland Road crowd.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

14:17

Leeds have now scored the most goals of any Premier League side in the opening 15 minutes of matches, with four. They have made Elland Road a difficult place for away teams in the opening part of the season and they are applying pressure on Villa at any given moment.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

14:15

Tielemans' shot from distance strikes an arm and Villa are awarded a free-kick 20 yards from goal. Buendia tries his luck but gets way too much elevation on the strike and it goes well over the crossbar.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

14:15

Nmecha has now scored in back-to-back league matches. He didn't know much about it, with Stach having an effort cleared off the line in the same sequence. The home crowd are enjoying their side's start to this one and Villa need to regroup.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

14:08

A nice move from Leeds stretches the Villa backline but Cash makes a superb recovery challenge to thwart Okafor. However, moments later Rogers bundles over Aaronson on the edge of the penalty area and the home side have a free-kick in a dangerous position.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

14:06

Despite Leeds' precarious position right now, they have lost just one of their last 25 league matches at home and have made a settled start in the opening few minutes, enjoying some of the ball and looking to get forward at any opportunity.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

14:03

Villa's starting XI this afternoon has an average age of 28 years, 351 days, their oldest for a Premier League match this season and their oldest overall since January v Leicester City.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

13:30

Tyrone Mings remains out for the rest of the year with a hamstring problem, with Andres Garcia also missing. Cash and Konsa pass fitness tests and start, while Rogers has recovered from a hamstring niggle picked up on England duty. There's also one change from the previous match, as Tielemans comes in to replace the injured Amadou Onana in midfield.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

13:30

Farke declared in his pre-match press conference that were no new injury concerns following the international break. Sebastiaan Bornauw remains out with a knee injury but Gnonto returns to the bench following a hip issue. There's just one change from the side that lost at Forest, with Bijol dropping to the bench and being replaced by Struijk.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

13:30

Aston Villa will move into the top four if they manage to win a sixth Premier League match out of seven. It's been an incredible turnaround for Unai Emery's men, who had failed to win their first five games in the league. Their last match before the international break was a convincing 4-0 thrashing of AFC Bournemouth at Villa Park, and they are in ninth position at the moment. Emery's side will be aiming for a second away league win of the season.

Leeds United vs Aston Villa

13:30

Leeds United currently sit in the bottom three after Nottingham Forest's victory over Liverpool a day earlier. Daniel Farke's men are struggling, with three defeats from their last four games, with all of those losses being away from home against Burnley, Brighton and Nottingham Forest. Their home form has been far more encouraging this season, and Farke will hope his players can turn up at Elland Road once more to move them away from danger.
