RB Salzburg have excused Mohamed Camara from their pre-season training camp as the player considers his future, according to reports. The 22-year-old has been linked with a move to Leeds United along with RB Leipzig’s Tyler Adams, as the club look to replace the departing Kalvin Phillips.
Both options have previous under Jesse Marsch, with American international Adams having began his career under the Whites boss at New York Red Bulls while Camara played for him at Salzburg. Two of the Mali international’s former teammates have already come through the Elland Road doors, with Brenden Aaronson and Rasmus Kristensen signing for a combined £35million.
And now Victor Orta looks to be intensifying interest on a third arrival from the Austrian Bundesliga champions, according to the Daily Express’ Ryan Taylor , and has entered ‘direct contact’ with the player’s representatives in a bid to beat Brighton and Hove Albion to a deal.
Taylor tweeted: “Red Bull Salzburg have excused Mohamed Camara from their pre-season training camp, so midfielder can resolve his future. Leeds have been in direct contact with his representatives. 22-year-old is valued between £17m-£25m & wants PL move. Brighton also in mix. #LUFC #BHAFC ”
The Whites have also been in contact with Adams and his camp, with a deal for one of those two looking the likely replacement for Phillips. The 23-year-old, out of favour at the Bundesliga club under Domenico Tedesco, is looking for a move away and is likely to come cheaper than Camara.
But Mali international Camara is highly sought after, with Salzburg’s allowance for him to leave pre-season suggesting a resignation over his departure. The 22-year-old will likely cost slightly more than Adams - between £17-25million, according to Taylor - but is a player very much on the rise.
Leeds will want to get a deal over the line quickly as they look to replace Phillips before pre-season kicks off. The club announced two fixtures in England - against Blackpool and Cagliari - to bookend the Australia tour, but Marsch and Orta will see the trip to the southern hemisphere as a hopeful deadline for any arrival.
Leeds fly out to Australia on Saturday, July 9 for games against Brisbane Roar, Aston Villa and Crystal Palace, before returning to the UK on July 24.
