Leeds United target Bamba Dieng’s proposed move from Marseille to OGC Nice could still be revived, despite the forward failing his medical on transfer deadline day.
Dieng could still complete the move if Nice activate a ‘joker’ rule, which permits one deal between two French clubs between the end of the summer transfer window and the start of the winter one.
The 22-year-old was set to travel to Leeds in a private jet after a fee and personal terms were agreed on Thursday.
Dieng had also been in talks with Fulham but Nice hijacked Leeds’ bid to sign the Senegalese international with a late offer.
He opted to snub Leeds’ proposal and went to compete his medical with the Eaglets. However, news soon emerged that Dieng had failed his medical at Nice and would have to return to Marseille, where he is deemed surplus to requirement.
But Dieng could still join Nice, who have offered him a five-year contract. Nice registered their first league win of the season at Lille on Wednesday after failing to win any of their previous four games (D2 L2).
Nice signed 12 players during the summer transfer window, including Kasper Schmeichel and Aaron Ramsey from Leicester City and Juventus respectively.
Fulham left-back Joe Bryan and Arsenal winger Nicolas Pepe also joined the Eaglets on season-long loans.
