Gnonto knows his audience
After blowing the roof off the away corner at Old Trafford, Wilfried Gnonto raced away to celebrate with an appreciative home end. After the customary finger to his lips, shushing the haters, he then put his finger to his temple.
You do not need a good memory to recall an in-form Manchester United player who has been making the same gesture with every goal he’s buried in recent weeks.
Away end knows its audience
“Take your pictures and —- off home.” Old Trafford’s developed something of a reputation for day-trippers and football tourists. The Leeds United faithful was only too happy to draw attention to it with the most striking song of their first-half hymn sheet.

Celebrating moments
One of the rules for the game Jesse Marsch valued on his dressing room wall was the need to celebrate moments, however insignificant. There was nothing in either of these teams’ form books or coaching situations to believe an away win was possible.
With the world against them, Leeds dug in and committed to trench warfare. Every little victory, however small, was celebrated. In the 34th minute, as a probing, home pass looped over the Leeds defence, Michael Skubala punched the air as it bounced out for a goal kick.
In the 38th minute, United’s defence was under siege in their own third and Luke Ayling dug them out of trouble with a successful Ayling Flop. He would roar with satisfaction as he got to his feet.
Bamford unhappy with Wober
In the 37th minute, Patrick Bamford had some choice words for Max Wober. The Austrian defender was bringing the ball out from the back, just about got past Wout Weghorst, but was straying into tricky territory.
Faced with a swathe of pressing home players, the defender just fizzed the ball forward in the general direction of Bamford, who needed all of his nous to win a free-kick in the centre circle. The striker was quick to get into Wober and let him know that’s not the kind of service he needs to be fielding all night.
