Leeds United striker linked with Everton move close to sealing transfer

Everton are poised to miss out on Leeds United striker Rodrigo after reports he is set to join Qatari side Al Rayyan.

The Spain international has been subject to speculation over his future at Leeds following their relegation back to the Championship. And the Blues are said to have been interested in bringing the 32-year-old to Goodison Park.

But journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported that Rodrigo is heading to Leonardo Jardim's side. In a tweet, Romano said: "Rodrigo Moreno Machado leaves Leeds United and joins Qatari side Al Rayyan, done deal and here we go.

"Medical ongoing for Rodrigo, waiting to complete documents and get the deal signed later today."

Ashley Young is poised to become Sean Dyche's first signing as Everton manager after undergoing a medical ahead of a free transfer following his release from Aston Villa.

Speaking during their pre-season camp in Switzerland, Dyche said: “I have always said it is not as easy as people think. You need finance but it is not just that, it is aligning all the deals, it’s aligning all the people involved, it is not just a player and the manager and the opposite manager.

"There is a lot more to it than that so it does take a lot of work but there is a lot of work going on behind the scenes, there always has been to be fair, sometimes there is a bit of noise about that, but we can’t tell everyone everything we are trying to do so there is work being done and we will see where it takes us.

"There are very few clubs who can put enough into a situation to get it done there and then. We are not at that state at the moment but we have to work very hard at the deals and that is what we will do."

Despite the impending arrival of Young, there is no doubt the Blues need attacking reinforcements. And along with Rodrigo, they have also been linked with his Leeds team-mates Wilfried Gnonto, Jack Harrison and Cyrensio Summerville.
