Leeds United have still been backed to beat a tight battle to avoid the drop despite their winless run extending to six on Sunday. FiveThirtyEight’s supercomputer - which uses statistical information and detailed data analysis to calculate how the Premier League table will finish in May – thinks Leeds will end the season in 13th place, but only four points above the bottom three.
The Whites have picked up just two points from their last six matches but the data used by the supercomputer has clearly seen enough to suggest they will survive, with Leeds impressing in their latest defeat against Arsenal on Sunday. The competitive nature of the bottom half so far, though, suggests it is going to be a tightly contested season.
The only side expected to be cut adrift come the end of the campaign is Nottingham Forest, who are predicted to finish on 28 points. Fellow newly promoted side Bournemouth are also predicted to go down despite their solid start, but not with the want of trying. The Cherries are expected to finish on 37 points, just two behind Fulham, who narrowly avoid relegation by one point ahead of Southampton.
