Leeds United's 'transfer target' meeting as Manchester United to name stars in friendly

Leeds United could be set to come up against reported transfer target Amad Diallo in their first pre-season friendly fixture. The Whites return to Thorp Arch to start pre-season training on Sunday and they won’t have long to wait until they take to the field for the first time.

United travel to Oslo to face Manchester United on Wednesday July 12, just 10 days after starting training, and given their internationals aren’t due to return until July 10, Leeds will be travelling to Scandinavia with a weakened side. The same can be said of the Red Devils, who will be without the likes of Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes, Luke Shaw, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen.

However, that could open the door for Diallo to be involved and he’ll be eager to impress as Man United mull over what to do with him. The winger spent last season on loan at Sunderland and according to reports, Leeds are keeping tabs on his situation if he is allowed to leave Old Trafford once more this summer.

The Ivory Coast international has made just three Premier League appearances in red after joining as a teenager from Italian club Atalanta. While Erik ten Hag will make the journey over the North Sea without a host of stars, it seems he could still include some big names for the clash.

Antony looks likely to be involved after missing the FA Cup final and Brazil’s friendlies with Guinea and Senegal through injury. Fred is another Brazilian that might play and both Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Jadon Sancho are available in theory.

World Cup winner Raphael Varane has called time on his international career so he should be fresh for the contest, alongside Anthony Martial, while Lisandro Martinez and Donny van de Beek have both recovered from recent injuries.

England international Dean Henderson is around and could play if he has recovered from surgery in time, while it seems the rest of the squad will be made up of youngsters who have something to prove at the Ullevaal Stadion, one week before the club’s next friendly against Lyon in Scotland.
