Here are the latest Leeds United headlines for Monday, August 8.
Leeds kit deliveries delayed
The arrival of Leeds United shirts has been delayed after shipping containers on a boat transporting them plunged into the sea, according to the Daily Mail.
Kit arrivals have already been delayed due to a Covid outbreak in Singapore, where Adidas strips are produced, but this accident has caused further disruption. Leeds have already apologised for the delays caused by Covid.
According to the report, the Whites usually sell around 300,000 shirts, and there are concerns over the impact the delays may cause, especially with a World Cup on the horizon, and a keen market for England kits.
Kinnear responds to transfer fee claims
Leeds United CEO Angus Kinnear has responded to criticism from Whites supporters that Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha were undersold this summer.
Phillips joined Premier League champions Manchester City for a fee in the region of £45 million, while Raphinha completed a 'dream move' to Barcelona for a fee of around £55 million. Some Leeds fans feel as though the club were short-changed following the departures. However, Kinnear claims the fees they received for the duo were 'very healthy'.
“There are two things to look at," Kinnear told The Square Ball Podcast. "The first of which is the construction of the fee itself and there are many elements that go into that which are not seen in the headline figure that is reported. Sometimes the headline figure reported isn’t even correct, but when it is, there are elements that supporters can’t see.
De Ketelaere explains why he chose AC Milan over Leeds
Charles De Ketelaere says it was the 'project' at AC Milan that made him choose the Italian giants over Leeds United. The Whites wanted to sign the striker from Club Brugge this summer, but the Belgian made it clear that his preference was to join AC Milan.
Leeds had an offer on the table for the 21-year-old for much of the summer, and it took some time for AC Milan to meet Brugge's demands for the player. A deal was eventually agreed, and he has joined the club on a five-year deal.
“The last few weeks have been difficult," De Ketelaere said during his unveiling at his new club. "You know what happened, I have always expressed my desire to my agents to go to Milan. I had to give something up, but the most important thing for me was to get here.”
