Leeds United news with injury update on Leif Davis and supporters look to cement Bielsa legacy

Here are the latest Leeds United morning headlines on Wednesday, 16 March 2022.

Davis injury update

Bournemouth manager Scott Parker has provided an update on the fitness of Leeds United loanee Leif Davis after he missed yesterday’s 1-1 draw with Reading. Davis was substituted in the first half of Saturday’s 2-0 win over Derby County with a hip flexor issue.

Davis was making his first Championship start in six matches against the Rams with the 22-year-old having found it tough to dislodge first choice Jordan Zemura, despite some promising performances when he has featured. Speaking after the draw with Reading, though, Parker confirmed that Davis’ injury is not serious and is hopeful he will be back very soon. Via quotes from the Bournemouth Echo, he said: "It doesn’t look that bad, no. It doesn’t look bad at all really. I don’t think it’s going to be too long."

Bielsa legacy

Leeds United supporters are campaigning for Marcelo Bielsa to receive the Freedom of the City of Leeds following his successful spell as head coach at Elland Road. Leeds United Supporters Network, which has a membership of more than 7,000 match-goers, wants to see Bielsa recognised for his work on and off the field.

A statement from the organisation said: “Leeds United Supporters Network have called for Marcelo Bielsa to be awarded the Freedom of City of Leeds for his work in not only restoring Leeds United to the Premier League, but also alleviating the spirits and hope of a city in the darkest and most challenging times of the pandemic. He achieved this with humility, fairness and compassion in a sport watched by billions across the globe. For the watching world, the City of Leeds has become synonymous with fair play, integrity and entertainment.”
