Leeds United news as Whites told they 'can't rely on Patrick Bamford'

A look at the latest Leeds United news on Saturday, July 30.

Leeds United told they 'can't rely on Patrick Bamford'

Gabby Agbonlahor has told Leeds United they need to bring in a striker with Premier League experience. The Whites are keen to bolster their squad with a forward and a left-back before the transfer window closes.

The former Aston Villa striker is predicting another season of struggle for Bamford, who sat out a large chunk of the 2021/22 season as a result of injuries. “It’s a big vote of confidence in Gelhardt, but I feel like they need one more striker,” he told Football Insider.

“They’ve obviously already brought in a lot of players who are able to come in and help them, even if they’re not used to the Premier League.

“However, I feel like you can’t rely on Bamford. He’s got his injury problems, and he’s most likely to break down again this season. They can’t then rely on Gelhardt, a youngster. They’ve got to bring in a striker with Premier League experience.”

Olympiacos to end any Leeds United speculation with decisive next move

Olympiacos are reportedly targeting a move for former Leeds United assistant manager Carlos Corberan as their new head coach. The Greek champions are said to be on the verge of relieving current boss Pedro Martins of his duties following a dismal exit from the Champions League in qualification.

After a 1-1 first leg draw away at Israeli side Maccabi Haifa, Olympiacos fell to an embarrassing 4-0 home defeat in the second leg and could therefore look to appoint a new manager. Corberan could fit that bill given that he remains without a job following his resignation from Huddersfield Town earlier this month.

Corberan shocked the Championship when it was revealed that the Spaniard had decided to move on from the Terriers, particularly after the season they enjoyed last term. On one of the smallest budgets in the division, he guided them to within 90 minutes of the Premier League as they were beaten 1-0 by Nottingham Forest in the play-off final.

The Marcelo Bielsa decision that set Leeds United man on path to success

Leeds United loanee Jamie Shackleton has claimed Marcelo Bielsa’s willingness to play him in two different positions helped him develop as a player. Shackleton made the temporary switch to Millwall earlier this month in search of regular game time.

The 22-year-old made just one substitute appearance following the appointment of Jesse Marsch and was often a bit-part player under the management of Bielsa, who often played him at right back rather than his preferred central midfield role. After securing his move to the Lions, that is where Shackleton will be hoping he can show off his abilities at the Den.

Having said that, though, Shackleton believes his ability to also play at right back makes him a better asset to a squad but is confident that his best attributes make him far more suited to playing in the middle of the park.
