Leeds United news as Whites now 'poised' to secure Alfred Schreuder appointment

Here are your Leeds United morning headlines on Monday, February 13.

Leeds United 'poised' for Alfred Schreuder announcement ahead of Everton clash

Leeds United are reportedly 'poised' to make former Ajax boss Alfred Schreuder their new manager after their search for a new head coach hits the one week-mark.

Last Monday, Jesse Marsch was sacked by the Elland Road chiefs following a 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest with Michael Skubala taking over in the dugout in their two clashes with historic rivals Manchester United in the week since.

But now it seems as though the manager hunt could finally be over with the appointment of Schreuder according to I News after the club has been rejected by numerous names including Carlos Corberan, Marcelo Gallardo, and Arne Slot.

The outlet understands that Schreuder could be in place before the match against Everton this weekend, in what is certainly a relegation six-pointer following the Toffee's own appointment of Sean Dyche earlier this month.

The Schreuder in the stadium

Alfred Schreuder felt a lot like the elephant in the room on Sunday afternoon. Noises had begun to circulate online across Saturday night of the Dutchman’s presence in the city.

There was chatter suggesting he was booked into one of the city’s hotels ahead of yesterday’s clash with Manchester United, with an interest in taking the job. There were counter-claims about a friendship with Erik ten Hag and attending as one of his guests.

During the match, The Daily Telegraph would report the former Ajax man was indeed inside the stadium and being considered as a successor to Jesse Marsch. One hour after the full-time whistle left us in no doubt at all.

'A disgrace' - Roy Keane claims Leeds United players to blame for Jesse Marsch sacking

Roy Keane has suggested Leeds United players downed tools to get Jesse Marsch the sack. A frustrating 12 months at Elland Road for the American came to a crushing end following last weekend’s 1-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest.

Despite dominating large spells of the game, the story of Leeds’ season unfolded as their wastefulness in front of goal was punished. Fast forward one week and it is deja vu for Whites supporters as they finished empty-handed after another promising display against Manchester United.

A lack of cutting edge in front of goal has proven Leeds’ kryptonite this season. Once again, missed opportunities were punished as the Red Devils stunned the home crowd with two late goals.
