A round-up of the latest Leeds United headlines this morning, Sunday, 30 October.
'Terrible' Patrick Bamford moment almost cost Leeds
BT Sport pundit Jim Beglin believes Patrick Bamford let his side down with a golden opportunity to put Leeds United ahead with the scores level at 1-1. The Whites' striker was let down by his first touch with a swarm of Liverpool players stopping him from getting off a second shot.
It would not matter in the end, with the 29-year-old getting the all important assist for Crysencio Summerville to notch the winning goal. Beglin believes the result could have won by a greater margin had Bamford made the most of his previous opportunity.
Speaking on Premier League Productions’ world feed (29/10, 21:24), Beglin said, “He knows that he’s got this one absolutely wrong. He’s let his side down there. Not a good touch at all. That touch, terrible. It could have been so much more for Leeds.”
Every word Jesse Marsch said on Leeds United's shock win, Summerville, Meslier & Sinisterra injury
Just go back to the moment of the winning goal and what's happened since then, how do you feel?
Yeah. At 1-1, we talked that last week when it was close with Fulham that we were more waiting to lose than pushing to win. And I think the best part was that you saw real resolve at 1-1. We needed Illan to make some big saves, but I think the mentality to push to stay in the match and to see if we could find a way to regardless walk away with one and see if we could find our way to see if we could get the three was really strong and showed resolve and belief in the team so it was necessary to stop the bleeding. Really important for us and I'm happy for our guys.
And the celebrations, what are they like?
Yeah, I mean, I haven’t even spoken to the team. The guys are happy. There's music in there. That's great. I want them to enjoy the moment. We have to use this to launch ourselves and so it makes for me next weekend really, really important back at Elland Road
Jesse Marsch's strange Leeds United trend has bought him the one thing managers don't have
Nobody saw this coming
Nothing in the previous eight matches, apart from the Arsenal loss, had suggested Leeds United would beat Liverpool at Anfield. A Liverpool side which had not lost in front of a home crowd in the Premier League for 2,016 days.
This is not the same Jurgen Klopp outfit which fought on four fronts for honours last season, but this isn’t the Marcelo Bielsa outfit which romped to ninth in the top flight 18 months ago either. Each club has had its troubles this season and the teamsheet made it clear who was the overwhelming favourite on paper.
Jesse Marsch and Klopp can talk all they want about the unfair returns Leeds have seen in recent weeks, but nobody walked away from last weekend’s Fulham loss with optimism about the coming trip to Anfield. At last, a shred of luck for the Whites and the fourth-minute foothold which set the tone for the night.
Andrea Radrizzani's grounded Leeds United message after brilliant Liverpool win
Leeds United's chairman and majority owner Andrea Radrizzani has issued a grounded message amid the euphoria surrounding the club's 2-1 win over Liverpool. Jesse Marsch's side picked up a first victory in nine games thanks to Crysencio Summerville's 89th minute winner.
Rodrigo opened the scoring at Anfield after just four minutes following a Joe Gomez blunder, with Mo Salah equalising ten minutes later. Summerville's second goal in as many games lifts the club out of the relegation places and up to 15th in the table.
While clearly happy that Leeds had won, Radrizzani was not getting carried away following tonight's result. He acknowledged the club's good performances in recent weeks, which ultimately ended without victory - as also noted before the game by Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.
'Can't defend like that' says Jurgen Klopp after Leeds United win at Liverpool
Jurgen Klopp claims his Liverpool side did not take advantage of wide areas against Leeds United. The Reds boss highlighted that area as a weakness of Jesse Marsch's side, while adding the Whites were compact in the middle of the pitch.
The German adds that the first goal Leeds United scored at Anfield was a freakish goal, with his side unlucky in the first-half. Klopp ultimately said his side could not defend in the manner in which they did for Leeds' winner.
“Good start to the game, liked it, energetic like we should have,” Klopp told the Liverpool Echo. “Then we conceded an early freakish goal, nearly an own goal."
