A look at the latest Leeds United headlines this morning on Friday, 21 October.
Steven Gerrard would 'really suit' Leeds United
Former Sheffield United and Birmingham City midfielder, Curtis Woodhouse, believes Steven Gerrard would suit the Leeds United role following his departure from Aston Villa. The former Liverpool midfielder has struggled to pick up the results expected during his time at Villa Park and last night's 3-0 defeat to Fulham saw the Villa hierarchy remove him from his position.
Leeds are level on points with Villa having played a game less, with pressure now beginning to mount on boss Jesse Marsch. Woodhouse tweeted: "Gutted for Stevie G, must kill him watching some of these players go through the motions when he was all in every second of every game he ever played.
"Legend, he will be back." Before responding to a fan who said he would take Gerrard at Leeds, he added: "I think he’d really suit that job."
Paul Robinson blasts inconsistent Leeds United after Leicester City no-show
Paul Robinson ripped into Leeds United players after their dismal performance at the King Power Stadium. A Robin Koch own goal and a strike from Harvey Barnes did the damage in the first half as Leicester City ran away as comfortable 2-0 winners.
Leeds had more possession and almost three times as many shots but, yet again, fired a blank to finish the game empty-handed. For the third time in four games, Jesse Marsch’s side failed to score - causing away supporters to voice their discontent at the American at the full-time whistle.
Former Whites goalkeeper Robinson slated the “poor” performance after the game. Speaking to Amazon Prime, the ex-England international highlighted how inconsistent performances have been the bane of Leeds’ season.
Jesse Marsch's 23-match slide will not command the same Leeds United patience Marcelo Bielsa enjoyed
There is no ignoring the single biggest talking point coming out of last night. Jesse Marsch is under immense pressure as Leeds United’s head coach this morning.
The bottom line is the Whites have taken nine points from their opening 10 Premier League matches and that’s one less than the 10 Marcelo Bielsa took from the first 30 available last term. And we all know which direction that campaign went.
Andrea Radrizzani has made it clear how itchy his trigger finger was in the weeks before he eventually gave Bielsa the bullet in February. You can almost sense regret in his words he did not act sooner with the Argentine to stop United’s nosedive.
Tales from the Bay - Will 49ers injuries hurt season's ambitions again?
It's happened before. In fact, it's happened a lot before. And now, the banged-up San Francisco 49ers are licking their wounds (perhaps in misguided hope that that will accelerate healing) before facing one of the healthiest — and most potent — teams in the entire NFL.
The Niners have earned notoriety for their consistently long injury lists, and the 2022 campaign has started no differently to most of those in the past decade, raising questions as to whether the problem is actually more systemic than pure bad luck.
Already this year, San Francisco — who started the year amongst a lot of people's tips for a Super Bowl appearance — has lost QB Trey Lance, DT Maurice Hurst and CB Emmanuel Moseley for the season, while the entrance to the trainers' facility may shortly be changed for a revolving door, such has been the demand for medical attention.
Every word Jesse Marsch said on his Leeds United future, the fans' reaction and changes
You made four changes tonight and you had a performance that was the complete reverse of the weekend, how do you explain that?
Well, I think there's parts of the first half that were actually quite good, but we lose a ball in almost their first time down the pitch, they get a weird own goal and then we push the game and at 1-0 we have chances and we have a couple big chances where maybe we can make it 1-1 but then when we give up the goal before half then it's a big hole that we've dug for ourselves 2-0. Obviously frustration and we're trying to push ourselves but we can't find a way in both boxes and to find a way to score more goals and be more dangerous.
We know you had one enforced change but the other three, why did you make those?
Yeah, with Coops he is so important that I don't want to risk pushing him too much on in three weeks. Three match weeks.
Patrick I thought was very good. I think that was a relatively easy decision to make because he was very dangerous and we're hopeful that he can be part of the solution of us finding more goals. Then we thought that Cry could be really effective and actually thought Cry played pretty well.
