Leeds United news as Koch eyes fresh start, Aaronson backs Adams to succeed

Here are your latest Leeds United morning headlines on Thursday, July 21.

Koch eyes fresh start

Leeds United defender Robin Koch is determined to put two seasons of ‘ups and downs’ behind him with a fresh start next season.

Koch has faced two long-term injuries during his opening two campaigns in England and also suffered from a bout of Covid in March. His career at Elland Road has been very stop-start but the Germany international is optimistic that next season will hold more promise for him.

“I’ve had some ups and downs during my first two seasons with my two injuries,” Koch told Leeds United. “I feel really good, comfortable and fit as well. I’m really looking forward to the new season.”

The 26-year-old has been impressive during pre-season so far and was the only outfield player to complete 90 minutes in Leeds’ 1-0 defeat against Aston Villa on Sunday. He has also been pleasantly surprised by the Whites’ large following Down Under and believes the tour has helped improve team spirit, which he describes as one of their biggest strengths.

Leeds transfer pursuit another lesson learned from last season

Relief would have been the overriding emotion for many Leeds United fans when Jesse Marsch’s latest comments on the left-back department reached them. An active pursuit would suggest the hierarchy has learned another of last season’s bitter lessons.

The speed and size of investment made in the playing squad this summer, which began days after the Brentford win, always felt like a statement. Six new faces through the door by the end of July’s first week was a message from the top: we don’t want to be messing around with relegation again.

Time will tell on how successful the investment proves to be, but nobody can say Leeds are not at least trying to make amends for last season.

Aaronson backs Adams to succeed

Brenden Aaronson is backing his international teammate Tyler Adams to make a huge impact with Leeds United. The pair know each other well having represented the United States together on a number of occasions and they have linked up in West Yorkshire this summer following Aaronson’s switch from Red Bull Salzburg and Adams’ move from RB Leipzig.

Adams has made two appearances for Leeds during pre-season with both outings providing plenty of promise. Of course, the midfielder is still settling into life at Elland Road, but Aaronson is confident he can be a success in white.

“He brings fire,” Aaronson said about Adams. “The best I can say is he’s going to bring tenacity to go out and try to win every ball and play for the team. That’s his attributes, he can combine well, he can start the attack for us and he’s so good defensively closing down balls.”
