Leeds United loan round-up as Alfie McCalmont nets in Carlisle win amid Joe Gelhardt nightmare

Alfie McCalmont scored his second goal for Carlisle United as they defeated Grimsby Town to climb into second-place in League One.

The 22-year-old scored his first goal for Carlisle in a 1-0 win over Colchester United last month, and has now scored two goals in three games for the Cumbrians.

Grimsby may have knocked Premier League side Southampton out of the FA Cup, but they were handed a huge reality check at Brunton Park.

The Mariners were pickpocketed just outside their own penalty area, and McCalmont picked up the loose ball, before stroking a measured low strike into the far bottom corner.

Carlisle doubled their advantage on the cusp of half-time through Jordan Gibson, as they went onto register three straight league wins.

There were contrasting afternoons for Joe Gelhardt and Cody Drameh in the Championship. Hjelde helped guide Rotherham United to a 3-1 victory over Queens Park While, while Sunderland were condemned to a humiliating 5-1 defeat by ex-Black Cats boss Alex Neil's Stoke City.

Rotherham moved eight points clear of the relegation zone as a result, whereas Sunderland now sit six points adrift of the Championship play-offs.

Gelhardt was subbed off at half-time during a dismal afternoon in front of his own supporters at the Stadium of Light. Millwall saw their run of four games without defeat come to an end as Norwich City came from behind to win 3-2 at The Den.

Charlie Cresswell started for the Lions, although Jamie Shackleton was absent from the squad after picking up a knock in midweek. The hosts took the lead through Tom Bradshaw in the 20th minute, but the Canaries stormed into a 3-1 lead just after the hour-mark.

Zian Flemming pulled one back for the Lions but Millwall dropped out of the play-off slots after being leapfrogged by Norwich.

Cody Drameh helped Luton Town retain their place in the play-off positions with a 1-0 win over Swansea City at Kenilworth Road. He started at right-wing back as the Hatters extended their unbeaten run in the Championship to three games.

Elsewhere, Lewis Bate started as Oxford United failed to stop the rot under caretaker boss Craig Short. Karl Robinson was sacked following a 3-0 defeat against Bristol Rovers last week, and the U's suffered an eighth defeat in nine games with a 1-0 loss at Lincoln City on Saturday.

Stuart McKinstry's struggles at Motherwell also continued. The Steelmen have collected three wins from four since Stuart Kettlewell took charge, and McKinstry has been a victim of their recent improvement in form.

The 20-year-old had been left on the bench for three consecutive games, and wasn't called upon once again during their 2-0 win over Ross County on Saturday.
