Leeds United given Newcastle United promise as Eddie Howe prepares for Burnley relegation clash

Leeds United supporters will be buoyed by the news Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe has vowed to pick his strongest XI ahead of the Magpies clash with Burnley on Sunday. Jesse Marsch's Whites head into the final game of the season against Brentford inside the relegation zone after Burnley leapfrogged them with a 1-1 draw against Aston Villa in midweek.

Burnley host Newcastle on the final day of the Premier League season at Turf Moor knowing that a win will almost certainly keep them up.

The Clarets sit level on points with Leeds heading into the final day, but have a goal difference of plus-20 on the Whites, meaning that three points for interim boss Mike Jackson's side will effectively send Marsch and company down.

However, Newcastle are currently riding the crest of a wave after they effectively ended Arsenal's top-four challenge on Monday at a raucous St James' Park with a 2-0 win over the Gunners. They have been one of the stories of the Premier League this season, going from relegation favourites in December to a potential final day top 10 finish.

And Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has reaffirmed that Burnley, where he previously spent just under two years as manager, will be getting no favours from the Magpies on the final day and will have to earn all three points if they want to survive.

“We will pick our strongest team and try to win the game," Howe promised at his Friday morning press conference. "There’s no let up, tactically we will try to get it right. We know from previous experience that we need to be mentally right.”

“I respect everybody at Burnley and I really enjoyed my time there and will always be grateful to them. I went back to Bournemouth as a much better manager."
