Leeds United fans have admitted that it could be 'hard' to sign Brenden Aaronson in the summer after his impressive performance for Red Bull Salzburg in the Champions League.
The Whites were keen on a move for the 21-year-old in January and it is understood that they also saw a second bid of around £20million rejected.
Salzburg wanted to keep Aaronson until at least the end of the season due to their participation in Europe ahead of an important last-16 clash with Bayern Munich.
It has proven to be a smart decision so far with Aaronson putting in an excellent performance in Salzburg's 1-1 first-leg draw against the current Bundesliga champions.
The USA international created the opening goal, flicking the ball into Junior Adamu's path and he expertly steered an effort into the top corner, before Kingsley Coman equalised for Bayern in the 90th-minute.
Aaronson was also heavily involved in the game and could've got on the scoresheet himself, but squandered a superb chance to put Salzburg two-up in the game.
Nevertheless, it was mightly impressive display from Aaronson and the Whites faithful were keeping a close eye on him following his potential switch to West Yorkshire.
Here is what some had to say on social media.
@ROI_LUFC: We can forget about signing Aaronson in the summer that’s for sure #ChampionsLeague #RBSalzburg #lufc
@ayemesloan: Aaronson getting the assist and nearly getting a goal immediately after against Bayern, what could have been #lufc
@bachilore: Aaronson looking awesome for Salzburg tonight. Will be hard to sign him in the summer… #lufc
@IIForsakenII: Knew even before the game between Salzburg Bayern we had missed the chance of Aaronson signing for Leeds, even in the summer. Obvious there would be other clubs interested in the summer. His performance here just confirms it, we have no chance. Another good signing missed! #LUFC
@pollard500600: Aaronson - what I've seen so far. Presses relentlessly and with tank emptying flat out sprints, plays very high up the pitch for a midfielder. Often found near the action but creates chaos with his chasing down. Fashioned a good chance for himself and involved in goal too #lufc
@JrSiki: Someone else watching Aaronson? At the moment it's paying off for Salzburg not selling him
@MrPaulRobinson: This lad Aaronson seems decent, surprised no one snapped him up in the transfer window *sideways glance at camera* #lufc
@DaveKWilliams: Of course Brendan Aaronson is going to star in the last 16 of the Champions League and #lufc will have no chance of buying him in the summer.
@leedsunited_lee: Aaronson assist in last 16 currently beating Bayern, any realistic chance of us getting him in the Summer or just another de Paul Scenario #lufc
@BenClufc: Well we missed the boat on Aaronson. Just makes me even more annoyed about January
@jshbckhs: I can see why RB Salzburg kept hold on Aaronson now #lufc
