Kalvin Phillips hobbled out of England’s Nations League clash against Germany inside the opening 15 minutes with an injury. The Leeds United midfielder came off worse from a fairly innocuous challenge with Nico Schlotterbeck and had to be replaced.
It came after a fairly chaotic start between the two old enemies at Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena where both teams enjoyed sightings of goal. However, there was a pause in proceedings after just nine minutes with Phillips left in a heap in the middle of the pitch.
He had attempted to halt Schlotterbeck’s driving run at the heart of the England midfield but, after colliding with the Dortmund defender, needed medical attention. In line with the protocols, the Whites star had to leave the field for brief treatment but returned to the game moments later. Although, his return was short-lived as he sat down on the pitch a couple of minutes later indicating that he could not continue.

As he left the field, and even after he had been replaced by Jude Bellingham, chants of ‘All Leeds Aren’t We’ could be heard from the away end inside the Allianz Arena. Luckily for Leeds fans, the injury to Phillips didn’t look anything serious with all the signs that it was no more than just a dead leg.
It will have come as a great frustration for the 26-year-old though after a season blighted by injuries at club level. He will now be desperate to be fully fit for England’s next Nations League clash against Italy on Saturday.
