LeBron James is named Western Conference Player of the Week

LeBron James hit a notable milestone on Saturday when he became the first NBA player to reach 40,000 career points. But it was a productive week for him overall.

On Wednesday, he led the Los Angeles Lakers to a huge come-from-behind 116-112 win over the Los Angeles Clippers. He scored 19 of his 34 points in the fourth quarter, which helped the Lakers overcome a 21-point deficit, the largest deficit a James-led team has ever overcome to win a game.

For the week, he averaged 30.3 points and 8.7 assists a game while shooting 56.9% from the field and 50% from 3-point range on 7.3 3-point attempts a contest.

As a result, James was named the NBA’s Western Conference Player of the Week.

Los Angeles may need more production like that from the 39-year-old during the new week. The team will face the Oklahoma City Thunder, Sacramento Kings, Milwaukee Bucks and Minnesota Timberwolves during the next seven days and the stretch will be critical for its playoff hopes.
