LeBron James had some high praise for his son, Bronny James, on Tuesday in reaction to a viral video of the younger James’s dunks.
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, LeBron James said that Bronny James is “definitely just as [athletic], if not right there” compared to where LeBron himself was at the same point in his development. That seems hard to believe, given the highlights we all remember of LeBron James tearing up high school games. But Bronny James’ highlight-reel dunks during his senior season at Sierra Canyon High School in California certainly were impressive, especially since Bronny James is five inches shorter than his father.
Exactly!!! He’s definitely just as if not right there at his age. The casuals just like to argue about 💩 they literally don’t know about https://t.co/DO0AyW8b4k

Bronny James is a highly touted freshman at USC, which opens its season next month. His playing status is currently unknown after he suffered cardiac arrest due to a congenital heart defect during a workout in late July. LeBron James told reporters earlier this month that Bronny is doing “extremely well” and plans to play this season, but he has yet to be cleared to return to practice by USC.
Whenever he does get on the floor, Bronny James is certain to earn plenty of headlines. Labeling him as being as athletic as his legendary father won’t do anything to temper expectations for his career. But given how vocal LeBron James has been about one day playing with his son in the NBA, high expectations aren’t actually new to the oldest of James’ three children.
