For months, many around the NBA expected that LeBron James would opt out of his current contract with the Los Angeles Lakers and sign a new one with them this summer.
There was talk that perhaps he would take a pay cut if they ended up signing a difference-making player with their mid-level exception. But that hasn’t happened.
Early Wednesday morning, James reportedly agreed to a two-year, $104 million contract to stay with the Purple and Gold. The deal has a player option for the 2025-26 season, as well as a rare no-trade clause. He can officially sign this contract as soon as this Saturday.
