With house prices continuing to shoot up and the average price of a London flat now standing at a record £521,146, you’d be forgiven for wondering what you could be getting for your money elsewhere.

A record 1,500 stately homes are currently for sale in France, according to Le Figaro, while Sambuca di Sicilia — one of Italy’s “most beautiful towns” — made headlines in 2019 for offering derelict properties for €1.
