Leather jockstrap and cone bras at London Fashion Week leave social media amused

Edward Crutchley is one of those few designers who likes to express his creative vision without worrying about the commercial aspect of it. There were two looks from his collection this season, at the London Fashion Week, that created quite a stir on social media. It was the leather codpiece seen on a male model and a codpiece bra rocked by a female model. For the uninitiated, codpiece is a triangular piece attached to the front of a man's hose. It was a popular European clothing during the 16th century.

Crutchley's collection had hues of whites, blacks and greys- making it a monochromatic affair. Edward used the works of illustrator Richard Breton’s The Drolatic Dreams of Pantagruel written the year 1565. He also turned to Europe's pre-modern era which showed a transition from medieval to renaissance in his collection.

This is not the first time a designer had introduced codpiece in his collection. Designer Thom Browne also had a similar codpiece made of denims teamed with chaps on the ramp last year. It was also during Gucci's show by Alessandro Michele in 2019, that codpieces saw its resurgence in fashion. Designers now seem to be embracing this century old trend which is suddenly seeing a comeback.
