Lawyer and activist Hayriye Kara on Turkey's crackdown on LGBT rights

PERSPECTIVE © FRANCE 24

A Turkish activist and lawyer has spoken to FRANCE 24 about her joy at being able to take part in France's Gay Pride parade in Paris this coming Saturday. She admitted, however, that her thoughts will be with members of her own LGBT community back home in Turkey, who hope they will be able to do the same at their own Pride march. Hayriye Kara is in Paris with Amnesty International to talk about the difficulties that LGBT people face in Turkey. Same-sex relationships and queer or trans people are not illegal there, but there is no legal protection from discrimination. She spoke to us on Perspective.
