Law student left blinded and unable to walk after contracting meningitis at 'ground zero' nightclub

A 21st birthday celebration turned into a nightmare for a young student who contracted meningitis, leaving her blind and unable to walk.

Annabelle Mackay, a 21-year-old student at the University of Kent, is one of 20 cases of the infection linked to the county. She celebrated her birthday at Club Chemistry in Canterbury, which is believed to be where some cases of the potentially deadly illness originated.
